Phivos Ioannides, who would be guiding the trip and the walks, is a world traveller with extensive studies, wide business and other experiences. He is involved for many years in the sector of authentic ecotourism in Cyprus and is the author of a relevant guide book (with the title 'Exploring Authentic Cyprus'). He is a Greek Cypriot and specialises on guided walking trips.

Our transportation (Citroen C8 MPV) can take upto six adult passengers and a driver. We keep groups small, in order to offer a more personalised service.

The combination of the two trails offers a rich experience over a considerably elevation range in Cyprus: Usually excellent vistas at high elevation, juniper, black pine and barren rock Artemis, and coolness at lush Caledonia Waterfalls trail.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Caledonia Waterfalls, Aedonion Road, Platres Cyprus

Caledonia Waterfalls Trail (linear, three km / two miles long and steep) at an elevation of down to 1,000 m offers quite a different environment (eg plane trees, strawberry trees, violas, brambles, bracken, trout if walkers are lucky, etc). It runs in a lush valley crossing the stream a few times.

Walkers have the option to do both the descent and the ascent or to wait for us at the low end of the walking route while we walk back to pick up the car.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Artemis Nature Trail, Olympus Mountain, Troodos 4800 Cyprus

Artemis trail (8 km / 5 mi, flat and easy) is the highest elevation trail in Cyprus with unique flora on the island. When the weather is clear it offers excellent vistas to many parts of Cyprus.

Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes

Explore : Starting from Agia Napa explore Lefkara village (where the famed lace is produced) and Unesco World Heritage neolithic Choirokoitia site. Birdwatch near Larnaca and visit other attractions.

Duration : 6, 8 or 10 hours (different packages)

From : Larnaca, Nicosia, Limassol, Agia Napa, Protaras, Paphos.

Highlights : Lefkara stone-built village, Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia, Larnaca wetlands birdwatching

Depending on time availability and travellers preferences we may do a short walk around Lefkara manmade lake, go for a meal and/or visit other attractions.

Transportation : Usually in a Citroen C8 MPV car.

Included: Guiding the trip (and possibly a walk).

Excluded : Food, drinks, entry fee at archaeological sites if any, etc.

The Trip:
It is primarily an exploration trip from Agia Napa (Ayia Napa) of the stone-built village of Pano Lefkara (a production center of the famed lace) and of Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia neolithic site.  We normally also do birdwatching at one of three wetlands near Larnaca (or Larnaka)  (in summer one dries out and water is almost gone in another so we suggest to skip this part of trip in July or August). Depending on travellers’ preferences and time availability, there may be possibilities to do a walk by Lefkara manmade lake, visit other attractions on the way (eg Panagia Angeloktisti church in Kiti village or Ayia Thekla chapel)  (depending on pickup location) and/or have a meal at a village restaurant.

Duration : Six, Eight or Ten hours, depending on package selection

Pickup time : To be agreed with the travellers. Usually it is between 08:30 and 09:30.

Pickup location : At an agreed place (eg hotel, port, etc) usually in Larnaca, Nicosia or Limassol (and even in Agia Napa, Protaras, Paphos). Naturally due to the significant distance, there is considerable time to be spent in the car when the trip starts in Agia Napa, Protaras or Paphos.

Itinerary : Pano Lefkara stone-built (Lefkara lace producing) village and  Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia Neolithic settlement are the two basic attractions of this trip. Birdwatching at one of the wetlands near Larnaca is also highly recommended.

Visiting Unesco World Heritage Choirokoitia neolithic site is highly recommended, especially because its convenient geographic location, allows combos with exploration of other worthy attractions nearby.
Stone-built Pano Lefkara acquired considerable wealth in the past century through production and trade of the famed Lefkaritika lace. As per local tradition, Leonardo da Vinci visited the village, loved and bought Lefkaritika lace. Besides meandering through the maze of the village, the village's central church is worth a visit ( according to local tradition it houses a piece from the Holly Cross).
For those into birdwatching, we highly recommend to include a visit to one of three wetlands near Larnaca, as they host thousands of birds and tens of bird species (especially during the annual migration in spring but also in autumn). Thousands of flamingos find refuge during the cold months of the year here. The trip is customisable.

A Possible Walk:
Besides meandering inside Pano Lefkara village, and subject to time availability, travellers could do a linear walk on the dirt road around Lefkara manmade lake (one of the most beautiful manmade wetlands in Cyprus, having steep hills around it).

Transportation :

We usually use a Citroen C8 MPV car.

What’s included:

Guiding the trip in general and possibly a walk.

What’s excluded :

Food, drinks, entry fee at archaeological sites, etc.

Akamas is a jewel of Cyprus nature. The walk is largely along the ridge of the Akamas peninsula. Initially walkers enjoy vistas of Lara coast and consequently of the dramatic ragged north Akamas coast. There is a chapel, a nature monument (huge, old oak) and ruins of a monastery on the route.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Akamas Peninsula, Neo Chorion Cyprus

This customisable walk takes place in the north part of Akamas, a pristine, almost untouched area of Cyprus. There are (at least) two versions. During the cooler season we recommend to do a 12 km long walk from Neo Chorio village (walking initially west) whereas during the hot season we recommend to do a 10 km long walk (from Smiyies picnic site)

From Smiyies the route goes north (and at points offers excellent vistas of the Lara coastline) and ascends to the peak known as "Moutti tis Sotiras" from where one can enjoy unobstructed views of the north coast from Cape Arnaouti, the tip of Akamas, towards Chrysochou Bay and the north-west all the way to Pomos in the north-east.

After a pause for a picnic and to enjoy the majestic views we usually walk to the Baths of Aphrodite on the Aphrodite trail (initially a steep descent, with the last stretch on a coastal dirt road, near the cliff).

As this is a private trip, we can customise it. There are many possibilities to finetune the route and its length.

Duration : 6, 8 or 10 hours (different packages)

From : Nicosia, Limassol. Trip from Paphos or Larnaca takes longer in the car - less time to explore. Only 8 or 10 hour trips are possible from Agia Napa or Protaras.

Depending on time availability and travellers preferences we may do a short walk, go for a meal and/or visit other attractions.

Transportation : Usually in a Citroen C8 MPV car.

Included: Guiding the trip (and possibly a walk).

Excluded : Food, drinks, entry fee at archaeological sites if any, etc.

The Trip:
It is primarily an exploration trip of the stone-built old quarter of Kakopetria village and of Unesco World Heritage Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis painted church.  Depending on travellers’ preferences and time availability, there may be possibilities to do a walk in Troodos (eg Artemis), have a meal at a village restaurant or visit other attractions on the way (depending on pickup location).

Duration : Six, Eight or Ten hours, depending on package selection

Pickup time : To be agreed with the travellers. Usually it is between 08:30 and 09:30.

From Agia Napa or Protaras the trip would make sense if the duration is 8 or 10 hours, as, due to the significant distance, there is considerable time to be spent in the car.

Itinerary : Kakopetria and Agios Nicolaos Tis Stegis Unesco World Heritage Painted church are the two basic attractions of this trip.

In our opinion, visiting one of the ten Unesco World Heritage Troodos Painted Churches in Cyprus is a must do activity in our Cyprus.
The laid-back old part of Kakopetria village offers an excellent example of Cyprus rural architecture and a collection of attractions (eg a traditional man powered olive press).  For those into nature, a walk up in (almost unique) Troodos is also highly recommended, as is a meal at one of a few village restaurants. The overall itinerary may differ depending on the pick up location. From Nicosia, if there is time we may visit for example also Panagia tis Asinou Unesco World Heritage painted church. From Limassol we may visit Omodos village and/or Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge, etc. The trip is customisable.

Possible Walks:
Besides a short walk at the stream next to old Kakopetria, and subject to time availability, travellers could do Artemis circular trail or Persephone trail. For an itinerary from Limassol we could include instead Caledonia Waterfalls trail, the shorter Pano Platres - Myllomeris Waterfall trail, or even a short walk at Kelephos Medieval Venetian Bridge.

Transportation :

We usually use a Citroen C8 MPV car.
